Graduation time is approaching, and there is definitely a desire to capture this event in an interesting way. Memory notebooks were once popular, which were a way to find out about classmates’ crushes and possibly learn something new about your classmates or about your crush. The idea of the video is somewhat based on the principle of a “memory” notebook.

How to involve other parents?
Someone must take the initiative. There are active parents, there are passive ones, there is nothing you can do about it. I can’t share the results, but the parents who participated in this small project were very pleased with the video. Of course, those who was involved was the smallest part of the kinder-garden group , but the video will serve as a good look back at an important, final stage in the child’s development.
It should be remembered that participation in the video is not a forced thing, if a parent does not want to participate, then it is their business. Everyone may have their own considerations, why yes, or why not.
These days, it’s not that difficult to shoot a video. Yes, the video may not be of the best quality, and not all videos will be the same, but that doesn’t matter in this case.
What you need to create a scrapbook video
- List of questions
- Children’s answers to questions
- A person who will undertake to create, put together a video
- Software and hardware
- Patience and strong nerves
Example questions
This list of questions should serve as a source of inspiration for you. You will certainly know your child’s kindergarten group/class better, so there will be other questions that are more relevant to your situation.
- What will you become when you grow up?
- If teachers/nannies weren’t teachers/nannies, what would they be? What would they do?
- What is your favorite season, why?
- What do you like to do most?
- What do teachers like to do the most?
- If teachers were inventors, what would they invent?
- What is your favorite cartoon?
- If you were a superhero, what superhero would you be?
- If you could give superpowers to caregivers and nannies, what superpowers would you give them?
- You have a magic wand, what beast would you turn your nanny into?
- What do you think teachers and nannies do while the children are sleeping?
- Do you want to go to school, or is it better to stay in kindergarten?
Children’s answers in video format
You don’t need professional cameras or a professional video operator. Parents film their children themselves, ask their own questions.
The videos will not be the same, and that’s okay. You just need to agree in advance whether they are vertical videos or horizontal ones.
Personally, I would recommend horizontal videos, but in any case it is better to agree on one format. One type of video will definitely reduce headaches for the person who will put this video together and the result will also be better.
Since the parents themselves will film the video, they will also “control” the background, appearance and answers themselves.
Software and hardware
Nowadays, video editing can be done on phones, but it is more convenient to do it on a computer.
We used the kdenlive video editing program, which is available for free and on all operating systems (linux, windows, macOs).
There are also free tutorials available for working with kdenlive.
If the video is planned to be shown at a graduation or an unofficial part of the graduation, then definitely think about the screen and sound. We had small “Bluetooth” speakers, and unfortunately they were a bit too weak to hear the children well, and the small projector was too dim because the room had ceiling windows and the sunlight was coming in that could not be covered.
Using children’s answers in a quiz
Then answers that were given for the video we did use in a Kahoot quiz, a question and answer contest, where there was a chance to win champagne.
The champagne was a good motivation for the parents to participate in the quiz.
Parents probably know their child’s answers, but they probably don’t know the answers of other children, so they can ask questions about the most popular answers in the quiz, for example: “Which superhero is the most popular among children?” or “Which profession is the most popular among children”
If you haven’t used Kahoot, we definitely recommend starting, it is also a good addition to children’s parties and adult parties.
